Love handles

Today I feel off the wagon... again! :) I can't help myself. My guilt's made even worse by Wingman Will's latest blog about hunky pan-asian Carl Ng... damn, that boy's abs could make me weep. He was on the front page of the newspaper pullout the other day but I didn't have time to drool since I was on-call.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever had abs like that :) The most I've come close to ( and that was years back ) is a deep etched line down my flat abdomen - certainly not the sculpted six-packs we all aspire to. Certainly my fault since I know I should have stayed away from the finger-lickin goodness offered by the Colonel. Compounded with the heavenly caffe mocha I took at Starbucks, the first shot of caffeine I've had for weeks...

I should be spanked. I have been bad.

Still I managed to squeeze myself into a thong. I figured since I was a buying one for Handsome Hui, I might as well get one for myself. Damn, I have got to lose some weight - maybe even get back the 30 inch waist I once had ( comfortably hanging on to a 32 right now, I proved it by buying a pair of preppy Dockers in that size... and it fits, dammit! ). All of us might outwardly decry the gay men's obsession with youth, good looks and the perfect abs but let's not fool ourselves, we all search for it - and let's face it, all the brains and wits in the world wouldn't be worth as much on the gay marriage mart as a delicious six-pack and a Chris Evans smile. Unfortunately, I would say.

Tell me. How do you guys stay away from burgers and fries? The delicious char kuay teow? I know my ISO maintains a horribly devilish regime that I simply can't emulate since it would be like cutting off my own arm but I shall start cutting down on some stuff. Definitely no snacks after 8, that's for sure!

I envy a man that has the ability to put on enough weight to look good. Hell, I sometimes envy the man that puts on too much weight. I've been small, slim, and wiry for 30+ years. I know I shouldn't wish for middle age. But a gain of about 15 pounds that plans to stay would make me a happy man.

Normal people would not have time workout like the moive stars... Afterall they got Paid to be whip into shape like that.

For me I hardly work out... But I did try to watch what I ate. Still living with my mom helps quite a bit with the home cooking.

Today she made her mixed pot again. Boiled cut carrot, potatoes, oinion, tomatoes, and chuck of pork in chicken stock. Boil at low heat all morning and you will get a lovely soup which you can adjust the flavour to your liking and in my mom's case this means she won't have to cook for a few meals since she made it in big pot :P

I stay away from burgers and fries with healthy servings of pizza and chicken McNuggets! Let us not forget the necessity of deep fried chimichangas and sour cream in mass quantity and, of course, just about anything bacon wrapped is tasty. So, you can see, it is pretty easy to stay away from burgers and fries...hmmmm burger.

When my friend started cutting down on carbs - he allowed himself some at lunchtime and none for dinner - I laughed at him ("Atkins?! Not you too!"). A few short months later he's now got a full sixpack and those supersexy cuts at the waist. -sigh-

I normally wear size 28 trousers, but have been known to fit into size 30 :-p

From my personal experience, I managed to lose weight, going from nearly 90kg to 68kg. It was definitely HARD !!! All I ate was salad, salad, salad. Hell, it bored me to death !! I jogged almost everyday. Only later did I realised to incorporate weight training. And, I'm still not satisfied with the way I look. I still have flabby abs. ;-p

Now, that I know better,I can safely say healthy eating and exercise always go hand in hand. Note that I say "healthy eating" and NOT "diet" because when you say diet, you tend to feel deprived of the food you love. Take everything in moderation AND exercise. It's all about BALANCE. Eat clean for six days and take one day off where you get to eat the things you love. It worked for me !!!!

p/s: I've read that you need to lower your body fat to less than 10% for your your abs to show. Gosh, I wonder what my body fat count is ??!!!

Brian - those 15 pounds never go on in the right place, don’t wish for them!

Paul - like Ahmad, I go for everything in moderation ... in restaurants I often ask for starter size or children’s size portions, so it’s the food I like but I just eat less of it. I certainly don’t stay away from burgers and fries. Actually I used to eat tons and still stay slim, I have that kind of metabolism. I’m just over 5’11” and about 65kg, like Jay I go for size 28 trousers when I can get them (usually in the teenagers’ section, since men’s trousers here only seem to start from size 30, go figure). I tried circuit training with weights, but still stayed scrawny. :o( I used to find walking home after work (about 3 miles) was my best form of exercise, and when I did sit-ups (is that what you call abs crunches?) I actually did have a six pack ... but now I have a more sedentary job and haven’t been doing the walk home (bad Ru, bad!) the abs have turned into a soft pillow. :sigh:

So Paul, tell us more about the thongs you bought for you and Hui. Show pics! (Okay, I suppose you can show catalogue pics if you don’t want to post real-life photos.) And remember, you don’t have to be bad to be spanked. ;o)

Paul honey,

You are a doctor, for Pete's sakes. You don't eat healthily for the sake of looking gorgeous with a six-pack, right? Riiiight?

As for myself, I control my portions. It's actually the portion that matters, not the food itself. So when you are at KFC, order two pieces instead of three, one instead of two, etc.

Anyway, I am proud to say that I have kinda lost 2 kilos in the past two months. But no sign of my abs yet .....

To me, it's all about portion, exercise and frequency.

I still eat those fattening foods even when I'm trying to lose weight, but I figured hey, let's not cut out all the fun out of life. It may take some times to get to the washboard abs, but at least I don't deprive myself of all those good stuff.

Oh, and exercise often. If you eat more, then just exercise more. Simple innit? (although in reality this is simply killing me!)

God I could never sacrifice my comfort food. The Call of the Colonel is something I have to answer like, every week?!

BTW Ahmad 10% body fat is like...being on hunger strike already leh...less than 15% is more likely...

Alas,
The only advice I can give on losing weight is not to do what I do. Eating out with my other half always entails "you know you want to, go ahead...". And we both get fat. Chewing slowly seems to help tho...
Also stay away from excuses like "oh i worked hard so I deserve a treat!"

Damn Paul...I woul dbe THRILLED to be in a 32 waist "comfortably." I have not seen 32 since I was...ummm 20 something. Yes I aspire to have abs that show and a v at the waist but my enjoyment of the food weighs in MUCH MUCH higher.

I eat burgers and fries every once in a whlie. Not that frequently. Maybe, once a week or every other week. I love ice cream and chocolate. I can never live without it. So I have to run 5Km every morning to stay the same.. But it's all good. :-)

Paul, I am also another fat kid, trying hard to lose weight. You would not believe it, but in the last two years, I lost almost 35-40lb.

Yet, I started on a high base, and today, still quite overweight.I would,of course, be more than happy to lose more weight!

Being good looking gets you all the babes! Hey, being inteligent is not pasport to the best babe in town!

I look at this and tell myself that I can do it. I was highly motivated at first but ended up with excuses and achieving nothing. I still visit the site very often. :P

All great ideas. Thanks, guys. Not fay ( yet! ) but i definitely have put on some pounds since I started work.

Children's portions, Ru? I feel like crying now :) maybe I should eat chewing gum all the time instead.

Stay away from burgers, fries, char kuay teow and greasy fried chicken? Never! Though I do make futile attempts at cutting down the portions. Never seem to be able to cut down enough cos, heck, I'm still having love handles

Paul, babe, I don't have just one kid's portion and nothing else! :oD I usually have a starter (preferably soup) and then a starter-size main course to follow. And okay, sometimes dessert after that as well ... :o\

But yes, cutting out the extra snacks between meals or in the evening would be a good start.

Aww dude, don't feel bad. I haven't had "abs" since I was 12! And wearing a 32 "comfortably.." not since high school =((. These days I'm hoping to shrink down to a 33-34! =)

BTW, thanks for your compliment on my new blog design.. no the blinking thing doesn't have any meaning, I just thought it looked really cool =).
