Good Friday

Ah, it's Friday. And a special one too as it's Good Friday. For all those wondering, it's a special time as it's one of the few times in the year that I actually attend Mass in Church. For the uninitiated - and the heathens out there :), this day marks the anniversary of the Crucifixition of the Christ. Oddly enough, although I am a lapsed Catholic at best with years of mission schools behind me, I still feel a guilty pang at the thought of skipping mass at these special holy days.

My ISO would laugh at me for sure if I mentioned such a thing to him. Latent Catholic guilt, he'd call it.

Having left the catholic church earlier this year I realise I don't feel that guilt you mention and that I used to feel. Otherwise guilt is supposed to be a lutheran heritage, of which we swedes know all about (the guilt that is). It's part of our culture, and it's a part we are not proud off.

Will you light a candle for absentees?

I think it's risky to confuse the contents of a belief with its earthly administration. You could say that Christianity is an example of a really great message - love thy neighbour & do unto others.. - with a really really bad marketing.

Good job, Paul. In attending mass on Good Friday you have proved yourself better than the C&E's, as my church likes to call them - those who only attend Christmas and Easter. My church only had one mass today, and it was at noon. Didn't seem like a great idea to me. There's no way I'm the only one who missed it because of work.

I agree with rapatu. That was very well said, sven.

Mr Anon, thanks :) I also drop by chruch on the occasional Sundays when I happen to walk by - and for All Soul's too!

Well, Jason, I got to church to check out the hotties - the altar boys :) Kidding. I do understand what you mean about Catholic guilt but I once had a father ( priest, I mean... not the leather daddy kind ) in church who was really cool. And he had no qualms about disagreeing with some of the church's doctrines - he questioned some of the more controversial issues and tried to make us all think.
